we went for the opening show of
the theatre festival,
The Swordfish, then the Concubine
at Dramabox, W!ldrice.
there were plenty of satire
and an undertone of protest
about today's society and political climate
in Singapore and Malaysia.
some parts were more explicit
than others,
it was all kinda hilarious.
there was a much needed
touch of comic relief
in the otherwise heavier
grim issues like Divine Justice,
our Psuedo-democracy,
Nepotism, Power-hunger,
Press-freedom etc.

Ivan Heng's artistic direction
was really clever:
scene-to-scene transition
in the absence of fancy stage design,
and the incorporation
of the gamelan ensemble.
i liked the content of it
but thought some of the
delivery were a lil awkward
and not very well polished.
mayb 'coz it was the
opening show.

that aside,
theatre is so cathartic
in that
it brings out
the unspoken struggles of the
Common Man and plays out
what people long to
express
but are unable to do so artfully.

i don't think
ALL singaporeans are
apathetic altho it is
quite safe to say MOST are.
but we really arent
the obedient, controlled
and unthinking people
angmohs imagine us to be.
we are aware,
thing is
we are just conditioned
to be Passive.
HAHAHA
o what the hell
stop judging us we were
taught to live like this
for decades:
AND SO THE KINGDOM THRIVES
AND THE PEOPLE CONTINUE THEIR
DAILY LIVES~~
